Meridian University (MU) is an educational institution providing unique hybrid and 100% online graduate degrees, certification, and public programs. Meridian leverage Azure cloud as its service provider to host the infrastructure responsible to deliver the programs to the students.

The Challenge

Need for a Remote Desktop Solution to Manage Growing Compliance Demands

In response to COVID-19 pandemic, MU had an immediate need to enable a large workforce to be able to work remotely while maintaining operational effectiveness, efficiency, security without significantly increasing costs.

In this challenge, MU needed a quick solution that was cost-effective and enabled them to:

Provide the best remote experience as they could for the teaching staff

Keep data secure and compliant, while proactively capturing logs to take actions

Use existing license to save costs and reduce administrative overhead on operational team

Implement a highly scalable solution that could be deployed across the organization

The Solution

Build Secure Desktop Environment using Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)

Techrupt deployed the solutions for MU that enabled them with remote desktop capabilities. A customized AVD image was built to match the user experience and usage requirements tailored to specific application sets and infrastructure. The implementation addressed an initial set of use cases followed by complex policy management with GPO and Conditional Access Policy.

Deployed high performance computer using Azure Virtual Desktop & app virtualization service to provide consistent and secure virtualized experience for staff.

Deployed App Services and Databases to host custom applications

Integrated the application used by MU with the AVD to provide single sign-on capabilities and seamless end user experience.

Securing the infrastructure with conditional policies and MFA

Free up critical IT resources by reducing the amount of physical infrastructure to manage and automate updates

Provided documentation and training to set the team up for long-term success.
